Chineside Beach Cafe - Lunch Review

Chineside Beach Cafe - Lunch Review

The majority of Bournemouth’s seven miles of seaside is wonderfully unspoilt, with just the promenade and beach huts separating the sandy beach and the cliffs.

However this has meant a bit of a hike if you fancy a bite to eat, with cafes and restaurants limited in number along the sea front. The lack of available seats and inevitable queues suggests there is room for additional catering in the area. So we were delighted to see a new eatery open in 2015.

Situated the base of Durley Chine, Chineside is billed as a family friendly beach cafe. We visited Chineside in December, on a sunny but windy day. The modern exterior looks the part with clean lines, glass and wood cladding. There is an upstairs balcony area and further seating outside. Considering the gale blowing we asked for a table inside. With a bustling and warm atmosphere, the interior feels a bit like being in a well appointed beach hut and even at 3pm almost all of the tables were taken. There are windows on the sea facing front so the views are of course wonderful, great waves on the stormy December day when we visited.

The menu is solid cafe fare, with ciabatta rolls, burgers and fish and chips among the options. We decided to try a classic beef burger and a chicken and pesto ciabatta. Both were served with in an enamel tray with a good portion of chips and tasty salad. The burger patty was bigger than expected, juicy and full of flavour. The seared chicken in the ciabatta was also generous on quantity and had a nice tang from the green pesto. We had a standard hot chocolate and soft drink. Chineside is licensed with a small but tempting range of wine and beer. Considering how busy the cafe was, service was fast and friendly.

Finishing and paying at the counter we readied ourselves for the walk back against the tail winds of Storm Frank.

The total for our lunch for two was £19.50.
