The Environmental Hub Cafe

An eco-friendly kiosk and environmental hub has opened at Durley Chine on Bournemouth seafront.

Built to Passivhaus standards using 45 tons of recycled timber from old groynes and reclaimed wood from a German shipyard, the venue includes toilets, a waste management hub, and a sustainable café serving drinks, snacks, and ice cream without single-use plastics.

Featuring a green roof and decked seating area, the hub aims to promote sustainability and educate visitors about caring for the coastline.

Funded by the Coastal Communities Fund, it forms part of BCP Council’s vision to create a low-impact, eco-conscious seaside destination.
