Bournemouth’s first drive in, roof top, cinema

Bournemouth’s first drive in, roof top, cinema

The Sovereign Shopping Centre Car park roof will be the venue for Bournemouth’s first drive- in roof top cinema at Boscombe this month.

To mark the start of The Great Exhibition of Boscombe, organisers of this year’s festival have arranged a choice of two pop up movie nights presenting popular family classics, grown up films and a Bournemouth University collaboration screening of the BFX’s competition winners. Jungle Book and I Am Legend will be showing on Saturday 24th October with a second chance to see the Disney classic and Forrest Gump on Sunday 25th October on the rooftop of the car park from 4pm. As an unusual venue, audiences can expect the Sovereign Shopping Centre car park to be transformed into a fun drive in cinema with food and soft drink stalls overlooking Boscombe’s skyline.

Peter Ruscoe, Centre Manager of Sovereign Shopping Centre, said, “We are delighted to be hosting the roof top cinema at the centre. It is set to provide great entertainment to our shoppers and local residents, and I think it is wonderful that we are able provide such a diverse programme of activities for the town’s exhibition. With the film schedule set to offer something for all the family, I encourage everyone to come along and enjoy a fantastic day or night out”.

Clare Belmont, Creative Director of the Great Exhibition of Boscombe added, “We are excited to launch the pop-up cinema on the rooftop of the Sovereign Centre Car Park this month. We can’t wait to see audiences watching films in the comfort of their cars whilst listening through their car radio. This will be the first of a number of quirky events for us in Boscombe this year and next. All our events are free, with welcome donations to our underlying charity, Kreate; a charity that uses art as a tool to engage with the community and inspire young people . I would also like to thank our funding partners Coastal BID and the Arts Council England who make this all possible’’.
