Pavilion Dance Welcomes Taiwan Dance Theatre for first UK Tour this October

Step into a moving and visually stunning performance from Taiwan's Tjimur Dance Theatre - a company bringing the stories of the Indigenous Paiwan people to the contemporary stage.

Breathtaking Dance inspired by history

Inspired by real events from over 150 years ago, Bulabulay mun? explores the Mudan Shipwreck Incident of 1874. It tells the story of a community suddenly confronted by the immense power of wind and waves. But rather than retelling history, this deeply moving piece shines a light on the people behind the story - those who lived through it, and their descendants who carry its weight today.

The performance weaves together four emotional chapters: Greeting, Misunderstanding, Singing with Heart, and Retrospect. It is set against the sounds of crashing waves and the vivid colours of Paiwan culture. The company have shaped every movement by years of research, field visits, and conversations with the Mudan community. As a result, this work is both authentic and deeply personal.

This is contemporary dance that crosses time, culture and language. We invite audiences to witness the resilience, beauty and spirit of the Paiwan people.
