Catch High-Octane Action at the British Rowing Beach Sprint Championships in Bournemouth!

Get ready for an adrenaline-fueled weekend on the golden sands of Bournemouth!

The beach is set to host the high-energy British Rowing Beach Sprint Championships from Friday 4 September to Sunday 6 September 2026.

Best of all? It is completely free to attend, making it the perfect day out for sports fans, families, and beach goers looking to experience world-class action right from the shoreline.

What is Beach Sprint Rowing?

Often described as classic rowing’s "wilder cousin," beach sprint rowing is a dynamic coastal sport rapidly taking the global stage by storm. It has officially been added to the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games line-up, giving spectators in Bournemouth an early look at a future Olympic discipline!

Unlike traditional flat-water rowing, beach sprints combine a sprint on the sand with chaotic ocean navigation:

  • The Format: Athletes sprint across the beach, leap into their boats, and tackle a 250-metre slalom course around ocean buoys before racing straight back to the shore.

  • The Thrill: It is fast, furious, and unpredictable. Sudden swell and rolling waves mean anything can happen right up to the final sprint back to the finish line on the sand!

Event Schedule & Timings

Head down to the shoreline across the weekend to catch the races live:

  • Friday, 4 September: Racing begins at 3:00 PM

  • Saturday, 5 September: Racing starts at 9:00 AM

  • Sunday, 6 September: Racing starts at 9:00 AM (Prizegiving at approximately 3:30 PM)
