Bournemouth's much-loved Arts by the Sea Festival will return on Friday 25 and Saturday 26 September 2026, bringing another vibrant celebration of creativity, performance and public art to the town centre.
Organisers have announced Bournemouth-based artist Lost Lines as the festival's 2026 Artist in Residence, alongside local dance duo Bombay Dance Club as Associate Artists.
Lost Lines is the creative identity of artist Rhea Hanlon, whose distinctive work combines digital, traditional and large-scale public art. Known for her colourful, character-led creations, Hanlon's artwork aims to bring warmth, humour and joy into shared spaces while encouraging people to slow down, connect and embrace kindness.
As Artist in Residence, Hanlon will help shape the visual identity of Arts by the Sea 2026, taking inspiration from this year's theme, Elemental. Visitors can expect bold characters, bright colours and playful installations appearing throughout Bournemouth town centre, transforming the festival into an imaginative celebration of the natural forces that connect people and place.
Joining the programme as Associate Artists are Bombay Dance Club, Bournemouth-based performers Sona and Shweta. Renowned for sharing the energy, inclusivity and excitement of Bollywood dance with audiences across the UK, the duo will create a brand-new performance inspired by the Elemental theme. Festival-goers will also have opportunities to take part in workshops and interactive experiences.
The celebrations will continue beyond the main festival weekend with the return of the Arts by the Sea Fringe programme. Running from 27 September to 11 October 2026, the fringe will see venues, organisations and independent producers across Bournemouth hosting their own events, creating a town-wide programme of arts, culture and community activities.
With colourful public art, live performances, interactive experiences and creative events spread across the town, Arts by the Sea 2026 promises to be one of Bournemouth's cultural highlights of the year.
