This year’s Bournemouth Fireworks will be out of this world – and that’s official!

Peter Theakston, Operations Manager at Pains Fireworks, the company that has designed Bournemouth’s biggest and best-loved fireworks party for 23 years, has revealed the three displays at the Littledown Centre on Saturday will have a space theme.

“It’s the fiftieth anniversary of the first man on the moon and we wanted to pay tribute and fire our rockets in the same direction,” he explains.

The three displays, including the famous White Knuckle – the region’s loudest and latest fireworks show – have been carefully choreographed and set to music and are ready to be installed at the Littledown Centre ahead of Saturday’s party. But Peter, a ranking former military musician himself, is remaining tight-lipped about the choice of music.  “There have to be some surprises, but you can be sure it will go with a bang.”

Bournemouth Fireworks is the only fireworks event on the south coast with three top quality displays set to music and has worked with Pains, Britain’s longest established fireworks display company with a history dating back to 1590, since its first show at Littledown in 1996.

With some 8,000 people expected to attend Saturday event additional attractions include the free-entry indoor Family Fun Zone, with the amazing wildlife collection of Crazy Creatures, the inflatable zone and the brilliant Get Up & Groove disco. Outside there’s a giant late-night funfair, licensed bar and a full range of refreshments while the Littledown Centre pitches play host to have-a-go sports sessions with local rugby, cricket, football, netball and tennis coaches.

This year Bournemouth Fireworks is again partnering with Relay for Life Bournemouth & East Dorset, a team fundraising challenge bringing families, friends and communities together to beat cancer. Teams fundraise for life-saving research over the year then in July join an overnight celebration of hope, remembrance and celebration while walking a 24-hour relay in recognition that for those touched by cancer it never sleeps. Relay For Life will be fundraising at Bournemouth Fireworks at the Littledown.

Gates open at 5.30pm with fireworks displays at 7pm, 8pm and the White Knuckle at 9pm.
