The core festival takes place over the weekend of the 27th - 29th September with fringe events in the weeks before and after. The 2019 programming has a theme of Mind Matter - through this the festival aims to explore and challenge current attitudes towards mental health and spark conversations through artwork and installations inspired or influenced by mental health issues and experiences.

Pyronix on The Beach | Friday 27th
Founded in Belgium in 2012, the collective Pyronix Production has mastered the art of taming the light based on a strong background in modern juggling, manipulation of light and flame sources as well as visual and pyrotechnic effects.
Submerge: Carnival SOS by Shademakers at Horseshoe Common | Sunday 29th
Shademakers UK call on us to Save Our Seas as one of the leading carnival groups in Europe return to Arts by the Sea. This year they transport us into the big blue with their crazy closing parade! Starting at Horseshoe Common, watch as this participatory event sees the streets of Bournemouth filled with an array of fabulous, custom-made water creatures and deep-sea characters.
