Festive fun in Southbourne with Santa’s Letterbox & Light Switch-On

Festive fun in Southbourne with Santa’s Letterbox & Light Switch-On

Southbourne’s Christmas countdown gets started with Santa’s Letterbox opening on Saturday, November 17th, and the Christmas Lights Switch-On on Saturday, November 24th 2018.

Visitors to Southbourne can expect a feast of festive fun this year, beginning with the arrival of Santa’s Letterbox on Saturday, November 17. A special free postal service, delivering letters directly to the North Pole, will be situated on Southbourne Community Green so that little ones can post their Christmas stocking wishes to jolly old St Nicholas.

Parents are encouraged to include their address as all children who post a letter will receive a personal reply from Santa who loves to respond to all those colourful, interesting letters.

The following Saturday, November 24th, will see Southbourne all aglow when the official switching on of the Christmas lights takes place, with a local celebrity set to do the honours. With 80 twinkling Christmas trees along Southbourne Grove bursting into light, it promises to be a spectacular sight.

The event at Southbourne Green, Southbourne Grove, begins at 5.30pm, with the lights set to go on at 5.45pm. The Christmas Tree Festival also commences at Immanuel Church. It is open 4.00pm - 7.00pm each evening throughout the week for you to visit and vote for the best decorated tree. On Saturday 15th we have a selection of live animals.

Bournemouth’s Coastal BID is one of the main supporters and organisers of Southbourne’s festivities. Paul Clarke, Bournemouth Coastal BID Chairman, said, “It’s always a pleasure to visit Southbourne’s array of innovative and inviting businesses, but at Christmas time it is a very special place to be. At Bournemouth Coastal BID we are so pleased and proud to get behind these community events and see Southbourne’s shops, cafes and restaurants sparkle that little bit brighter. We hope as many people as possible will come along and share in Southbourne’s fun and festivities in the run-up to Christmas.”
