101 Photos from the Arts by the Sea Opening Weekend

Bournemouth’s Arts by the Sea Festival kicked off this weekend with all manner of colourful street performances, art, dance and music in the centre of Bournemouth.

Graced with fine weather all weekend, the crowds were out to enjoy the spectacles on offer.

With so much going on we tried to visit as many zones as possible to catch what we could. On Saturday our highlight was the mesmerizing performance of Herbert’s Dream. The internationally acclaimed French theatre company, Compagnie De Quidams, performed the ephemeral ‘Herbert’s Dream’ on the opening night of the festival. Illuminated, unearthly and entrancing, his unique and other-worldly parade had crowds follow the characters from The Triangle, through town to Pier Approach. Plenty of photos below.

The Town Hall has never looked so colourful as Silicon Shores lit up the front with high-tech projection mapping over a number of shows on Saturday and Sunday and The Rajasthan Heritage Brass Band kept everyone boogying too.

On Sunday some of our favourite performances included Suitcases by Wet Picnic, Are We Alien?, Bab’s and Stella’s Intergalactic Spectacular and Roots by Highly Sprung.

There’s more to come in the coming week and Circus Folly: Night Carnival parade taking place on Saturday 6th October on Old Christchurch Road and Horseshoe Common.
