The 10 acres of Compton Acres is set out in a circular walk and allows you to explore a number of different styles of gardens. From the luxurious water fountains, statuary and topiary of the Italian Garden to the unique elegance and incomparable beauty of Japanese horticulture.
Our favourite part of any day out is of course the well earned food at the end of the walk, and at Compton Acres you are in for a treat. The charmingly warm, bright and airy Café and Tea Rooms takes its pride of place at the entrance of the gardens - which means you are welcome to visit just to try the delicacies on offer (without entry to the gardens, but we recommend you make a day of it!).
From full English breakfasts to delectable handmade soups, quiches with a selection of fillings, and beautiful fresh salads there's something for everyone. The fully-licensed café also offers a well-rounded wine list.
We tried the gorgeous looking sandwiches, all made on site using local ingredients. We enjoyed a selection including Chicken and avocado, thick sliced salmon, and brie, all available on a variety of breads. Fillings were generous and tasty and the sandwiches come with a side salad. Sandwiches are priced from £4.55 to £5.95. A day out like this wouldn’t be complete without a Cream Tea. At Compton Acres you get a large homemade scone with strawberry jam, Roddas clotted cream served with a pot of tea. And it’s always jam on first. The cream tea is £6.25.
All the staff at the cafe were friendly, providing impressively fast service considering almost every table was full by 1pm on the Tuesday lunchtime we visited. We spotted Viv Bronson, Head Chef in the kitchen and thanked her for a lovely lunch.
Compton Acres is a jewel in Bournemouth and Poole’s range of tourist attractions and is acknowledged as one of the finest privately owned gardens in England. In addition to the Café and Tea Rooms, there is also the Bakery and Harbour View Café on site.
