Part of Wave 105 Summertime in the South, the popular festival of miniature traction engines celebrates the glorious sights, sounds and smells of the age of steam.

Now in its seventh year, Poole’s Mini Steam on the Quay will see some of the most beautiful and detailed miniature steam traction engines on display as well as providing rides.

Organised by local enthusiasts Richard Harvey and Nigel Moody in conjunction with Poole Tourism the event features up to 27 unique miniature traction engines, there will be everything to keep steam enthusiasts young and old happy.

Included in the display will be the return of the popular full size 1909 Stanley Model R Steam car which made its debut last year. Hand built over 4 years, using traditional parts and materials, this year the Stanley will be joined for the first time by its sister car as part of the display. Restored by Steve Baldock, the pair of unique vehicles have taken many hours of painstaking labour and ingenuity to get them back on the road and are the only two made to measure machines created this way.

This year will also see a number of Showman’s engines making an appearance along with fairground organs plus a mix of different types of miniature traction engines, all lovingly built and maintained by their owners.

There will also be a static display of steam related engineering such as trains displayed by the Wimborne society of model engineers.

Richard Harvey, said: “Families really love the chance to get up close to the engines and have a ride, especially children as it’s something most of them have never seen before. The whole event is a fantastic celebration of the dedicated work and craftsmanship of the enthusiasts who bring them to life. We are a friendly bunch and there’s no better reward than being able to share our passion so come along and have a chat.”

The free event is the chance to quiz the experts and see the age of steam come to life – so come down and make the most of a fabulous day out.”

In order to host the event Poole Quay will be closed to traffic 9am-6pm.
