Alum Chine Gardens

Alum Chine is the largest of four chines within Bournemouth.
Here you'll find shaded paths, the popular Treasure Island-themed children's play area, a paddling pool, tropical garden on the cliff face and bowls, catering and toilet facilities within the adjacent Argyll Gardens.
With the Blue Flag award winning beach down below, the gardens have become renowned for their facilities, striking landscape design and stunning views.
A walk along Alum Chine takes approximately 20-25 minutes. There is on street car parking on West Overcliff Drive.
What is a chine?
Peculiar to Dorset, Hampshire and the Isle Of Wight, a chine is a steep-sided river valley where a river flows through coastal cliffs to the sea. They are caused due to soft eroding cliffs made of sandstone or clays.
