Nine Below Zero
Event Date: Fri 6 April 2018
“Who knew this band was such a splendid live proposition? I certainly didn’t, but now I’ll be making plans to catch them in a headlining capacity. I’m only around 37 years late, but hey, I made it eventually.” God Is In The TV Zine
After supporting UK legends Squeeze last year – and securing a reputation as “one of the best Blues bands around today” with their scintillating live performances - Nine Below Zero have announced they will performing highlights from their iconic debut album ‘Live At The Marquee’ with an 8 piece band for the first time ever this spring.
In 1980, newly formed Nine Below Zero released their first record ‘Live At The Marquee’, launching them on a career path that would see them become one of the most popular British Rhythm and Blues acts of the time – warranting regular TV performances on The Old Grey Whistle Test and The South Bank Show, as well as support slots with The Who and The Kinks.
During this upcoming spring tour they band will be playing classic tracks from ‘Live At The Marquee’ such as ‘Homework’, ‘Riding On The L&N’ and ‘The Hootchie Cootchie Coo’ - now with added trumpet, saxophone, keys and female vocals to create an exciting new Nine Below Zero Big Band sound. Audiences can also expect to hear other key tracks such as ‘11+11’ from ‘Third Degree’ album and ‘It’s Never Too Late’, co-produced with Squeeze founding member Glenn Tilbrook.
“Superbly executed, highly infectious” – Record Collector
Speaking about how he feels the Live At The Marquee tracks work as an 8 piece, founding member, lead vocalist and guitarist Dennis Greaves said: “We couldn’t afford brass and keyboards back then, so the harmonica had to do it all but now it really does sound like a big band! It’s as if it was meant to be.”
