Next week, the BSO will be holding two special events dedicated to developing emerging talent at Lighthouse, Poole, providing composers of all ages with the opportunity to have their works performed by both the full Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra and new music ensemble Kokoro.
Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra, in partnership with Sound and Music, are calling composers aged 12-18 to submit an original composition, for the chance to attend a weekend of workshops with professional composers and BSO musicians on 17 & 18 February 2017 at Lighthouse, Poole.
The BSO’s 2016/17 season begins in Bournemouth on Saturday 1 October with a fiesta of symphonic favourites. The ‘Hall of Fame’ concert will be conducted by Stephen Barlow and features an exciting programme including Mendelssohn, Khachaturian and Smetana. Anna Fedorova, one of the world’s premier young pianists, will perform Rachmaninov’s Piano Concerto No. 2 in a concert that promises moments of fiery passion, deathly stillness and exquisite virtuosity. Tchaikovsky’s much-loved 1812 Overture, with its momentous 16 scored cannon firings, will bring the concert to an explosive climax.
Would you like to see your crockery dusted off and living a life of extravagance and excitement? The BSO are calling for crockery donations to be used for their monthly Tea Dances.
Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra under its regular guest conductor, Pete Harrison, will perform a hamper of Christmas favourites at Lighthouse, Poole on Saturday 19 December, 7.30 pm. Also appearing will be singers Shona Lindsay and Stephen Weller. Shona made her professional debut in the title role of Annie at the age of 12, and in 1990 Andrew Lloyd Webber cast her as Christine in the Phantom of Opera. She can often be heard on Radio 2’s Friday Night is Music Night.
Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra will be performing a divine selection of popular classics brought to light by an impressive display of lasers, lights and indoor fireworks on Friday 3 July, 7.30pm at Poole Lighthouse. Classics including Tchaikovsky’s 1812 Overture, Maurice Ravel’s Boléro, Bernstein’s West Side Story and The Firebird by Stravinsky are amongst the delights.
Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra’s popular outreach project, the Rusty and Not So Rusty Orchestra, is returning in true force for a broad mix of ever-popular classical works. The ‘Rusties’ project, as it is affectionately known, enables people of all ages and abilities (Grade 5 and above is recommended) to receive professional coaching from members of the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra.
