Boscombe

Find out more about the surf reef, Boscombe Pier, Boscombe Vintage Market and lots more

Boscombe is located just outside of Bournemouth town centre, past Lansdowne or a short walk along the seafront from Bournemouth Pier.

It's main features include its own unique pier and the Sovereign shopping centre, plus a high number of individual shops. This all combines to offer a very different shopping experience and it also has a number of guest houses and hotels serving Bournemouth.

Boscombe Pier

A historical feature of Boscombe, the pier is some 750ft long and it is a focal point for amazing views and a place to sit and relax on a sunny day. It holds a cafe, beach shop and is within walking distance of the Beach-front office for more information about safety and things to do. Entry is free.

Boscombe Surf Reef

Bournemouth is home to one of four artificial surf reefs in the world. Created with a number of sandbags for bigger waves the reef is meant to mimic that of a natural reef to increase the size of the waves.

The reef at Boscombe is designed to provide a grade 5 wave on a day with good swell which is in the challenging range (Hawaii Pipeline is a grade 8).

Note: The surf reef is currently undergoing a survey and reconstruction. It is unavailable for use as of June 2011.

Boscombe Vintage Market

A vibrant vintage market by the sea on the first Saturday of each month. Boscombe Vintage Market first opened its stalls in October 2010, it was such an instant hit that it now takes place every month, inside two marquees. Entry is free.

The success of Boscombe Vintage Market is not only helping to provide opportunities for small businesses, local artists, skilled crafts people and enterprising students, it also shows the potential of The Crescent as an open space, increases footfall in the area; and is raising the profile of Boscombe as a creative arts and cultural hub!
