On Sunday 23 April at 3 pm, join Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra and BSO Leverhulme Young Conductor in Association Victor Aviat for a special relaxed matinee performance of the best-known pieces of classical music in an informal setting. With the concert hall in flat floor mode, there will be plenty of room to spread out and enjoy the music. All too often the formality of the traditional concert experience can be excluding to anyone who, for whatever reason, is unable to observe formal concert etiquette. Music should be enjoyed by all and it is the BSO’s mission to make its world-class music accessible to as many people as possible.

Delivered as part of BSO Participate’s Resonate strand of work, the BSO’s relaxed concerts have been specifically adapted for concert-goers with autistic spectrum conditions, those with sensory, communication or learning difficulties and anyone who would benefit from a less formal environment. Resonate works to promote health and well-being, social inclusion and social cohesion within local communities, using the power of music to transform lives. There is a relaxed attitude to noise and audience members are free to leave and re-enter the concert hall at any point during the performance, also making the concert ideal for families with young children. There will also be a Chill Out area where space is made for anyone needing a bit of quiet time before or during the performance.

“My eldest son has autism and is unable to attend a traditional concert. My younger son plays the violin and this is the only opportunity we have had to participate in such an event together as a family.”
